Somalia: New Puntland Security Minister Assumes Office

A new Minister of Security has assumed office in Puntland State of Somalia.
Gen. Khalif Isse Mudan, a former Somali Air Force pilot and commander, assumed office on Wednesday 27 July in a ceremony held at the compound of the Ministry of Security and DDR in Garowe, the capital of Puntland.
Mr. Ali Hayan, Director-General at the Ministry of Security and DDR, offered the opening statement at the ceremony by describing developments at the Ministry.
Gen. Yusuf Ahmed Kheir, the former Minister of Security, said he had introduced many new developments at the Ministry since assuming office in mid-2010.
Gen. Kheir, who was appointed as State Minister of the Puntland Presidency for Legal Affairs, indicated that he is willing and ready to work with the incoming Minister of Security, Gen. Mudan.
“I am happy today that security institutions and agencies, such as the Puntland Police Force and the Puntland Security Service (PSS), come under the direct authority of the Ministry of Security and DDR,” said Minister Kheir.
Puntland’s new Minister of Security expressed his appreciation to the outgoing Minister and encouraged the Ministry employees to respect each other, to uphold attendance and to maintain good working ethics.

The well-organized ceremony happened in an atmosphere of friendliness and was attended by Deputy Security Minister Abdi Jamal, Deputy Finance Minister Abdi Qowdhan, PSS Director Saleban Barre and officials from the Puntland President’s office.
