Somalia: Somali Police Officers trained in Italy Return Home

Twenty Somali Police Officers who received training course in Italy have on Monday returned back home to continue their national duties.

The training course which took place in Italian town of Orvieto was organized by the ‘’Guardia di Finanza’’, in collaboration with the Italian Foreign Ministry. The Officers we were welcomed in Mogadishu Airport by the Italy Ambassador to Somalia Mr Andrea Mazzella and the Somali Federal Government Minister of Finance Hussein Abdi Halane.

A statement from the Italian Embassy said that the training is part of a ‘’wider package’’ funded by Italy to the Somali Government.

‘’ The course involved Somali police officers coming from Hargheisa in Somaliland, from Garowe in Puntland and from the capital of Mogadishu, who have been trained in (i) legislation on the international movement of people, goods and services, (ii) self-defense, (iii) border controls and (iv) fight against terrorism,’’ was explained in the Statement.

Italy is currently taking part in the European Union training Mission (EUTM) going in Mogadishu, whereby military experts are training the Somali government forces. The embassy said that more than seventy Italian soldiers are in the Somali Capital ‘’in support of peace and stability’’.
