Somalia and Burundi Sign Further Cooperation agreement

Somalia and Burundi have signed a new further cooperation agreement after top leaders from both countries met and held talks.

Prime Minister Abdiweli Sheikh who is on an official visit to East African state held lengthy talks with the President of Burundi Pierre Nkurunziza in Bujumbura.

According to a Press release from the Prime Minister’s office, both countries agreed to enhance the bilateral relations signed in 2012.

‘’ Somalia will make a review in its decision of closing the embassy in Bujumbura,’’ read one of the points.

The two sides also agreed to form a joint committee to investigate a recent Human Rights Watch in watch African Union forces in Somalia of committing Sexual Exploitation and abuse.

A government delegate led by the Vice President of Burundi is expected to pay a visit to Mogadishu.

Burundi has been part of the African union peacekeepers in Somalia since 2007 and has deployed more than 3,000 troops.
