Somalia: Puntland President Attends Global African Investment Summit

The Global African Investment Summit (TGAIS) on Monday kicked off in London, attended by a number of African leaders and world’s largest institutional investors.

Representing Somalia, Puntland President Abdiweli Mohamed Ali alongside his counterparts, Paul Kagame of Rwanda, Yoweri Museveni of Uganda, John Dramani Mahama of Ghana and Prime Minister of Tanzania were present in the summit.

Former Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo who is chairing the meeting, said that it is the right time and opportunity to invest in Africa.

In an exclusive Interview, Puntland leader said that his government is looking for investors to finance projects in key industries including infrastructure, agriculture and natural resources.

“We have a number of important projects that will help the Puntland economy grow substantially’’

‘’Finding the best investors for the projects and knowing that the projects will be undertaken in a way that creates shared value and promotes long-term sustainability is crucial,” he said.

According to analysts, the stable environment enjoyed by Puntland is a key attraction to investors.

Puntland delegation is expected to hold meetings during the Summit with officials representatives from a range of investors.

Africa is being recognized as a profitable market opportunity in the global economy today. It is home to six of the world’s ten fastest-growing economies.
