A state funeral was held for former Police Chief Mohamed Sheikh Hassan Ismael, who passed away last Thursday after suffering cardiac rest.

Hundreds of politicians, business figures and dignitaries witnessed the service which was held in one of Mogadishu Police academy on Sunday evening.

Among those who attended the funeral mass include President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, Prime Minister Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed and Parliament Speaker Mohamed Osman Jawari.

The body of the former Police Chief was airlifted to neighbouring Kenya on Saturday for further investigations and it was confirmed by doctor he passed away due to cardiac arrest.

Government leaders paid tribute to the former Police Chief and underlined that ‘’he was a man who sacrificed an enormous amount in his years of service to the country’’.

He had worked as an army official during the military government before he was assigned to this job in July.
