A Somali journalist working for a local radio station was killed on Tuesday evening by unknown gunmen in Galkaio town, located in the North-Central Somalia.

Abdirisak Ali Abdi, also a news correspondent with a local television was sitting with a friend in a coffee shop when armed men approached him and opened fire.

The gunmen fled immediately from the scene and there were no clues as to who ordered the killing, or why.

Journalist associations strongly condemned the murder and called for authorities to bring justice the assailants.

‘’ He received several death threat messages from unknown persons,’’ said one of his colleagues.

Somalia is ranked as one of the most dangerous countries for reporters

Attacks on journalists are often blamed on Islamist Shebab fighters battling the internationally backed government, but some are also believed to be linked to a settling of scores within the multiple factions in power.
