Somali Prime Minister Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed has strongly condemned deadly attack carried out by al-Shabaab on a bus in North-eastern Kenya, causing the death of 28 passengers.
‘’My Government and I offer our sincerest condolences and support to the people of Kenya. We share your grief, but also your determination not to be intimidated by these terrorist and criminal acts,” he said in a statement.
The attack took place in an area close to the Kenyan border with Somalia after gunmen stopped the bus that was heading to Nairobi and travelled from Mandera.
Al-Shabaab spokesman told the media after the attack that they were revenging for the Kenyan Muslims in Mombasa whom he claimed that they are tortured by the Kenyan security forces.
He also warned the Kenyan government that the attackers were sending a message to Kenya that they cannot stop the group’s operations in the country.
However, Somalia Prime minister underlined that his government is committed to eliminate the terrorist group from the region.
‘’Somalia and Kenya share a common commitment against terrorist tugs that is rooted in our will to ensure security and stability on the region.’’
The al-Qaida-linked Islamist group has been behind a number of attacks in Kenya, which has troops fighting al-Shabab in Somalia.
