Somalia Police foil Al Shabaab attack at a Political Conference

Somalia authorities on Thursday said they have foiled a planned suicide bomb attack against delegations attending a Conference aimed at forming  a new Federal state in the Central region of the country.
According to security officials, several number of assailants driving a car were stopped as they were on a mission to blow up at a residential compound of the delegates in the Central town of Adado.
Al Shabaab officials claimed the responsibility of the attack, claiming that they had reached their ‘’goal’’.
Four of the assailants were killed after a brief gunfire with the Security forces near the residential compound of the delegates, said the Spokesman of the Somali Ministry of Interior Security Mohamed Yusuf Osman.
The Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (SRCC) for Somalia, Ambassador Maman Sidikou has applauded security forces in Adado for preventing a suicide attack at the ongoing conference for the formation of a new administration in the central region.
He said; “The brave actions of AMISOM and Somali security forces today have not only prevented loss of innocent lives but also demonstrated once again the effectiveness of joint operations between the two in ensuring security of the Somali people.”

The attack comes on the first day of Ramadan.
It’s not the first time al-Shabab has launched attacks during Ramadan, but in 2010 it carried deadly attacks on the Somali government and African Union troops, yet hundreds of civilians died during the confrontations between both parties.
A day before the attack, the delegates unanimously passed a controversial constitution for the regional state expected to be formed.
