A delegation led by the India’s Minister of State for External Affairs of India, General (Retd) Dr. Vijay Kumar Singh arrived in Somalia capital, Mogadishu on Tuesday.
Accompanied by the High Commissioner of India to Kenya and concurrently accredited as the Ambassador of India to Somalia and other officials, they were received by the Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud in the state house.
During the meeting, both sides discussed various issues of bilateral cooperation including political, economic and commercial relations and development partnership and ways of enhancing the long-standing historical ties, according to a Press release from the Ministry.
Somalia President stressed that his government is interested in re-establishing the bilateral relations which had not existed following the collapse of the Central government two decades ago.
On his part, India’s minister of State for External Affairs said that his country is determined to foster the relations and provide the necessary support to the government towards achieving peace and development in the country.
Somalia President has been invited to attend the International conference of India-Africa partnership which will be held in New Delhi in October.
Somalia and India formally established diplomatic relations a year after Somalia had gained its independence.
India was one of the governments that closed their missions in Mogadishu in 1991 following the outbreak of the civil war.
