A member of the Somali Federal Parliament has called for the International Community to not interfere with domestic affairs, as Parliamentarians stick on their move to impeach President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud
In an interview with the VOA Somali Service, MP Mohamed Ismael Shurie said that Somalia is a sovereign country and the international partners had no legal right to interfere with issues related to politics.
‘’The International Community should stop interfering with our own issues which is a violation to our sovereignty…. We will solve it by ourselves,’’ he said.
His comments came after Envoys of the United Nations, the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD), the European Union (EU), the United States of America and the United Kingdom released a statement on Wednesday saying they were concerned on the impacts of the impeachment motion against President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud.
Mr Shurie stressed that the motion is not an obstacle to the nation, but finding a solution to the government’s failed policies.
He added that debate on the motion will soon be commenced in the Parliament and no changes will be made on the decision to impeach the President.
Last week, more than 90 Parliamentarians tabled an impeachment motion, accusing the President of exceeding his constitutional powers. The MPs said it had been under process for the last six months, condemning the President of rampant corruption, political nepotism and incompetence since he came to power in 2012.
