GoodahMembers of the Somali Federal Parliament who tabled in an impeachment motion against President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud have refused to accept decision reached by the Speaker of Parliament.
Earlier, Mr Mohamed Osman Jawari, the Speaker of the Parliament announced that the impeachment motion has been dropped and called on for a meeting to discuss about the accusations against the President by the lawmakers in the motion next month.
‘’He [Parliament speaker] has reached a personal decision. We will not accept to withdraw from the motion and we will not attend the meeting,’’ said MP Abdullahi Godah Barre, who is among the 93-lawmakers who signed the motion.
Mr Barre accused the Speaker of the Parliament of not being neutral on the motion. He also dismissed reports saying that some of the members who signed the motion had withdrawn.
Somali lawmakers accused the President of rampant corruption, political nepotism and incompetence since he came to power in 2012.
According to sources, it is believed that the International Community played a big role in throwing out the motion to avoid a political crisis.
