Somalia President leaves for UN General Assembly
Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud has left Mogadishu for New York to attend the 70th session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly which began its current sitting on the 15th of this month.
He is accompanied by the First lady, Ministers and other government officials.
The session is being held under the theme: ‘The UN at 70 – Road to Security, Peace and Human Rights.’
The session will see other heads of state and government from different parts of the world converging in New York for the high level meeting on the adoption of the post 2015 development agenda and the general debate where the heads of state are given an opportunity to address the general assembly.

Heads of state and government are expected to consider, adopt and sign the outcome document during the summit to adopt the post 2015 development agenda to be held from 25 to 27 September in New York on the sidelines of the high level segment of the 70th session of the UN General Assembly.
The new agenda, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), to begin on 1 January 2016 builds on the unfinished business of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), which end on 31 December 2015.
