Somalia: Federal Cabinet Passes Medicinal Drugs Regulatory PolicySomalia’s Federal cabinet has approved the medicinal drugs regulation policy submitted by the Health Ministry.
The new policy allows the regulation and control of, Registration, Licensing, Manufacture, Importation, and all other aspects pertaining to medicines, medical devices and borderline products, according to officials.
Somalia’s minister of Health Hawa Hassan Mohamed said during the weekly-cabinet meeting in Mogadishu that the government will establish a national medicine regulatory authority in order to cover the needs of medicinal drugs in the country.
Since the collapse of the Central government in 1991, Pharmaceutical market in Somalia has not been regulated; this has resulted the country to become a booming market for counterfeits of different products including medicine.
Due to Lack of an effective health sector body, the easiest way to become a pharmacist in Somalia is by installing a small kiosk or pharmacy.
