Today 1st of November is start date of the campaign of the Presidential elections on January 2009. More than 14 candidates are running for the president post this year this could lead to one of the most heated campaign in Puntland since 1998.

Puntland administration previously banned any campaign activities by the candidates until the 1st of November, this move was seen as a way of restraining the many candidates who were traveling from aboard to come to Puntland, in order to mobilize their supporters.

The campaign will continue till the end of December 2008, the election date is on 8th of January 2009. The Next President and Vice President of Puntland will be elected by the 66 members of the Puntland Parliament.
