Unknown number of Prisoners have escaped from the central prison in Garowe, the capital city of semi autonomous region of Puntland.

Puntland State Minister of Security Jama Hirsi Farah told Horseed Media that some of the prison guards have been injured by one of the escaped prisoners armed with a pistol.

It is not clear how the prisoner got the pistol.

Puntland security forces are still continuing their investigation on who was behind the prison break.

Other official told Horseed Media that the escaped prisoners among them were pirates, killers and others dangerous prisoners who were accused of various crimes.

There are fears that these prisoners will return to their criminal activities, Garowe city is now preparing for the Puntland Presidential election which will be held after two months.
