The Transitional federal government of Somalia, have accused Al Shabaab militants of killing civilians in Mogadishu shelling, on Monday.
More than 15 people died and at least 80 injured in mortar attacks fired by Al-Shabaab towards civilian-populated areas, says statement released by the Ministry of Information.
One of their mortars hit a camp for internally displaced people in Mogadishu.
The government accused Al-Shabaab spokesperson for publicly declaring war against the Somali people and government on Monday.
This shows their lack of regards for the holy month of Ramadan. It is against Islamic religion and Somali culture to fight against another Somali, says the press release by the Ministry of Information.
The Somali Government condemns the attacks and loss of civilians.
Somalia Minister of Information, Abdirahman Omar Osman (Eng. Yarisow) said: “We praise the national security forces’ bravery and their determination to defend its people and nation against terrorist groups’ atrocities against humanity. Our security forces with the help of AMISOM forces will stand firm against any attacks with a view to protecting Somalis. We call on our Somali people to unite against Al-Shabaab. Somali President Sheikh Sharif’s call to respect the holy month of Ramadan and to stop fighting was declined by Al-Shabaabâ€
Earlier this month, all Somali religious and community leaders called for the cessation of hostilities during the holy month of Ramadan. But Al-shabab seems to be defiant of such calls, says the statement by the Ministry of Information.
