SOMALIA: Danish Refugee Council concludes 30 projects in Puntland

A handing over ceremony organized by the Danish Refugee Council in Somalia was held in Bosaso Puntland, on Monday.
The ceremony was to mark the conclusion of 30 humanitarian and development projects which were implemented by the DRC in Puntland. The projects began in 2007 and are planned to end in 2010. These projects were funded by the World Bank, Unicef and DFID.
The DRC project coordinator Simon Nzioka, says their projects helped more than 47.000 people in Bosaso and surrounding villages, it also included construction, education and health programs for the young and old.
Mr.Nzioka commended the Puntland administration for their support, he also requested that the Puntland authorities to work more on the security, so that international organization can operate in the region.
The ceremony was held in Bosaso’s city council, it was attended by government officials, DRC officers and civil society groups in Bosaso.
Mohamud Farah Beldaje, Bosaso’s Mayor, thanked the DRC for their humanitarian and development projects in Bosaso and the surrounding areas.
The Mayor took the opportunity to also warn other NGO’s that are based in his city, he said his administration will not tolerate organizations that are not active.
