Kenyan Vice President William Ruto has revealed that his country will be opening its embassy in Mogadishu, the Somali capital in June.
Speaking in a Press Conference after meeting the Somali Prime Minister Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed on Wednesday, Mr Ruto said that his Government is aiming to enhance robust relations between the two countries.
Mr Ruto added that the decision comes after significant improvement in security and stability in Somalia.
“Indeed because of improved stability in Somalia, Kenya would be setting up an embassy in Mogadishu by June 2014 as a demonstration of the relationship and brotherhood that exist between our two countries,” announced the Vice President.
Kenya closed its embassy in Somalia at the fall of Siad Barre regime in 1991 following a protracted civil war.
During their bilateral talks, the two sides widely discussed and agreed to cooperate on elimination of al-Shabab from the whole country.
Last year, Kenyan ambassador to Somalia Josephat Maikara presented his credentials to the president of Somalia.
