Somalia: Police arrest hotel staff for suicide attack
Somalia authorities have arrested at least ten people suspected of being involved in or having knowledge of yesterday’s suicide attack on the Central Hotel in Mogadishu, sources confirm.
All the arrested suspects are the hotel’s staff including the security guards who were present during the attack which claimed the lives of more than 20 people.
A senior Somali police officer was quoted as saying they wanted to suppress the information in the hope of catching more suspects.
The al-Qaeda-linked militant group claimed the responsibility of the attack.
Deputy Prime Minister, Mohamed Omar Arte who was among the injured has been airlifted to Turkey for further medical treatment. Sources close to him have told the media that his injury is not that serious.
‘Suicide bombers were couple’
Meanwhile, reports continue to develop on the identification of the two suicide bombers who carried the attack shortly after the Friday prayers.
According to credible sources, the suicide bombers were couples who both lived in the hotel. The female suicide bomber, who has been described as Lul Ahmed, is thought to be a Dutch-citizen and was the hotel receptionist.
‘’ The man went into the car and detonated the explosives, while the lady blew herself up in front of the mosque shortly after the first explosion,’’ said one of the witnesses.
Security sources are yet to neither confirm nor comment on the identity of the suicide bombers as investigations carry on.
