British Foreign and Commonwealth Office has decided to appoint Harriet Mathews as a new ambassador to Somalia, replacing ambassador Neil Wigan.
A statement issued by the British Foreign ministry said that the new ambassador will take over office later on in July this year.
Ms Harriet served as a diplomat in the British Foreign ministry since 1997 and has been recognised as an expert on African issues, with recently working on the global fight against the deadly virus, Ebola.
On her appointment Ms Mathews has said:

I am delighted to have been appointed as British Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Somalia. I look forward to working to deepen the strong relationship between our two countries. The United Kingdom has been instrumental in helping to bring peace and security back to Somalia, and it is a great privilege to be able to contribute personally to this process.

In June 2013, Britian appointed its first ambassador to Somalia in 21 years since the country’s central government collapsed and reopened its ambassador in Mogadishu.
