A suicide car bombing has killed at least 11 people and wounded several others, in the Somali capital, officials have said.
The attack occurred when a car ladened with explosives detonated outside the restaurant during lunch time.
“A vehicle loaded with explosives was parked outside the restaurant,” Ahmed Warhere, was quoted by the AFP.
Banoodo restaurant, close to the Presidential palace, is popular with government officials, and was owned by a Somali businesswoman. Reports say that she was injured in the attack.
No one has claimed responsibility for the blasts but suspicion will likely fall on the Islamist militant group al-Shabaab, an al-Qaida affiliate which has carried out a campaign of suicide bombings since the beginning of this year.
Yesterday, a suicide bomber from the militant group attacked a van carrying UNICEF staff members in Garowe, killing at least seven people including foreigners.
In the biggest attack so far this year, al-Shabaab assaulted Garissa University in neighbouring Kenya, killing at least 147 people.
