Clan Violence leaves 7 dead in SomaliaAt least 7 people have been killed in a deadly clan-related violence in Central Somalia on Sunday, residents and witnesses confirm.
The battle two clan militias broke out in the town of Beledweyn in the early morning hours. Reasons behind the latest violence between both clans are not yet clear.
‘’ Shops and other businesses have all been closed due to the fighting, people are worried of this continuous battles. We are always living in a state of fear,’’ said one of the residents.
The clash between the two rival clans has been going on for so long following multiple disputes, while the local elders been able to mediate between the groups, a lasting ceasefire has never been achieved.
Local administrations have been criticized for not intervening the battle between the clans, yet some locals have accused government officials of fuelling the clash.
Since the collapse of the Central government in 1991, Water, pasture and politics have been at the center of sporadic clashes between Somali tribes across the country.
