Ethiopia reportedly withdraws troops from Somalia amid ethnic unrest

Ethiopia has reportedly pulled out hundreds of soldiers from the Somalia border town of Dolo in Gedo region, southwestern Somalia.

Reports indicate that Ethiopian army troops vacated their bases inside and outside Dolo and crossed back to Ethiopia, taking their heavy weapons with them.

The troops were reportedly replaced by heavily armed special police from Ethiopia’s Somali region.

The reports come amid escalating political tension between the Ethiopian central government and the Tigray region, and ethnic clashes in several parts of the country.
