Political row between President, PM of Somalia intensifies

Published: January 2, 2022

The increasing conflict between Somalia’s leader and prime minister has pulled the East Africa peninsula nation into a political catastrophe.

President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed, who took on duties four years ago, expelled Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble as well as Naval Forces Commander Abas Amin Ali from their positions on accusations of “corruption” and “abuse of public land.”

Nevertheless, the prime minister, disobeyed the command, labelling the president’s verdict to expel him as “outrageous.”

On Tuesday, Somalia’s opposition presidential runners urged the nation’s president to retire from his position “as soon as possible.” The nation was already going through difficulties on various problems with a drought, economic worries as well as safety matters.
