Garowe, Puntland – The people living in Puntland celebrated the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the North-East Somalia administration, on Tuesday.

Puntland was established in 1998, after a conference that was held for months in Garowe, and was agreed upon by delegates from Bari, Nugaal, North-Mudug, Sool, Sanaag and Buhoodle district in Togdheer region. August 1, 1998 was the day that the Puntland Government was completed and the MP’s from the regions were elected.

The commemoration was held in Garowe, the capital of Puntland, and was attended by President Said Abdullahi Deni, Vice President Ahmed Ili Osman, and other government officials.

The event featured a military parade and the inauguration of six new buildings for various institutions in Puntland.

President Deni also said that he is committed to holding elections in Puntland in 2024. However, the term of office of the Parliament and the President is running out, and it is unclear whether elections will be held on time.

The future of Puntland is uncertain, but the people of Puntland are hopeful that the state will continue to progress in the years to come.
