The Somali National Army said the operation forms part of a broader campaign aimed at strengthening security across Jubbaland and dismantling Al-Shabaab’s remaining strongholds in Middle Jubba, a region long regarded as one of the group’s key bastions.
Somalia’s elite Danab Special Forces, operating alongside Jubbaland security forces, have destroyed seven Al-Shabaab bases during a coordinated military offensive on the outskirts of Jilib in the Middle Jubba region, marking another significant blow to the militant group’s operational network.
According to military officials, the operation targeted a series of insurgent strongholds, including the strategically important area of Gambale, which security sources describe as one of Al-Shabaab’s principal bases in the region. Troops also recovered equipment and supplies abandoned by retreating militants as government forces advanced through the targeted locations.

Just days earlier, government forces reported that coordinated airstrikes near Mahas district in the Hiiraan region killed 42 Al-Shabaab fighters and wounded 12 others, underscoring the sustained military pressure being brought to bear against the al-Qaeda-linked insurgency.
