The members of the National Salvation Council of the Somali parliament have issued a press release condemning the delay in the opening of the 7th session of the Federal Parliament, describing it as illegal and unconstitutional.
The MPs accused President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Parliament Speaker Sheikh Aden Madoobe of failing to uphold the country’s constitution and laws, leading to political conflict, corruption, and social division.
The lawmakers accused the parliament’s speaker of merging the federal government’s executive branch with the parliament, and the parliament has been closed for a month without reason.
They said the closure of the parliamentary session was a refusal to hold the government accountable.
The lawmakers who issued the call told the Somali public, politicians, and the international community that the Speaker of Parliament and President Hassan Sheikh are working together to undermine the independence of Parliament and the opening of the session. They also called for pressure to be put on the leadership of the government and parliament to protect the country’s constitution and system of governance.
