Djibouti City — The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, met with President Ismail Omar Guelleh of the Republic of Djibouti on Monday to discuss recent diplomatic developments following Israel’s decision to recognize Somaliland.
During the meeting, the two leaders emphasized the importance of close consultation and coordination to safeguard Somalia’s unity, independence, and national sovereignty. They underscored the role of brotherly and friendly nations in opposing any actions that could lead to the division of Somalia.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud expressed his appreciation to the government and people of Djibouti for their longstanding support of Somalia, particularly Djibouti’s continued efforts to preserve Somalia’s territorial integrity and independence. He highlighted Djibouti’s leadership role in promoting regional stability and solidarity.
Both presidents agreed to further strengthen diplomatic consultations and bilateral cooperation, with the aim of maintaining peace and stability in the Horn of Africa. They reaffirmed their commitment to the fundamental principles that govern relations between sovereign states, including respect for territorial integrity and national unity.
The Federal Republic of Somalia reiterated its firm determination to protect the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, expressing confidence in the continued support and solidarity of regional partners.
