The Commander of the Somali National Army (SNA), Major General Ibrahim Mohamed Mahmoud, chaired a high-level military meeting on Sunday focused on security operations, force development and preparations for Somalia’s planned transition to full national security responsibility.
The meeting, attended by senior military leadership, reviewed progress in ongoing operations, military reform efforts and readiness to assume responsibilities currently supported by the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).
Military officials also assessed the broader security situation across the country and discussed preparations ahead of upcoming Independence Day celebrations.
According to participants, the discussions emphasised strengthening operational readiness and accelerating efforts aimed at improving the effectiveness and capabilities of the Somali National Army.
Senior officers presented updates on current activities and outlined plans intended to support force development and enhance military performance.
The meeting further highlighted the need for closer coordination and unified efforts to maintain security in the capital, Mogadishu.
Closing the session, Maj Gen Ibrahim called on commanders and officers to intensify efforts to advance the army’s strategic priorities and sustain the pace of ongoing security operations.
Somalia has been working to expand the role of its national security forces as part of a broader transition process supported by international partners.
