President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and senior officials urge solidarity and peace as Somalis celebrate Eid al-Adha across the country.
The President of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, joined hundreds of worshippers for Eid al-Adha prayers at the Islamic Alliance Mosque in Mogadishu on Wednesday, alongside Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, cabinet ministers and other senior government officials.
Following the prayers, President Hassan Sheikh extended his congratulations to the Somali people on the occasion of Eid al-Adha and offered prayers for lasting peace, prosperity and development across the country.
In remarks delivered after the prayers, the President called on citizens to uphold the values of compassion, unity and mutual support during the holiday period, stressing that social solidarity remains essential to Somalia’s future stability and progress.
“We should always remind ourselves of the good deeds associated with such occasions. It is important to reinforce our unity, cooperation and support within society in order to achieve a stable and developed Somalia,” he said.
The President also said Somalia’s state-building efforts had reached what he described as a “historic stage”, driven by the determination and resilience of the Somali people. He emphasised the importance of national unity, social cohesion and support for vulnerable communities in helping the country rebuild and strengthen its institutions.
Eid al-Adha, one of the most significant festivals in the Islamic calendar, is celebrated by Muslims worldwide and is traditionally marked by communal prayers, charitable giving and gatherings with family and community members.
