Mogadishu — Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has addressed the offensive remarks made by U.S. President Donald Trump, comments that have sparked widespread anger among Somalis both at home and abroad.

Speaking at a press briefing, Hamza explained why his government chose not to issue an official response to Trump’s statements. He noted that the U.S. president’s verbal attacks were not unique to Somalia, adding that Trump had made similar remarks about multiple countries around the world.
“Donald Trump has said things about many countries. It is better not to talk about them and leave them alone,” the prime minister said, emphasizing that the comments did not merit confrontation or a strong official reaction.
Hamza stressed that Trump’s remarks were neither new nor specifically targeted at Somalia, and therefore did not carry significant weight in the government’s view.
The prime minister’s comments come amid growing public outrage, with Somali social media users heavily criticizing Trump’s speech and calling for a stronger response from national leaders.
