Azerbaijan and Somalia signed a defense cooperation agreement on Wednesday, strengthening military ties between the two nations. Somali Defense Minister Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur and his Azerbaijani counterpart Zakir Hasanov formalized the pact in Baku, marking a significant step in defense industry collaboration.
The Somali Defense Ministry described the agreement as a means to enhance technical support and military knowledge-sharing to bolster Somalia’s defense capabilities.

Earlier in the day, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud met with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to discuss bilateral relations, green energy cooperation, and defense ties.
The discussions underscored growing diplomatic engagement between the two nations. Additionally, Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Somali Foreign Minister Ahmed Moallim Fiqi signed an education cooperation agreement, further expanding ties.
The new agreements highlight Azerbaijan’s increasing engagement with Africa, particularly in defense and economic cooperation.
