Somalia and US discuss security and economic ties at high-level meeting

Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdisalam Abdi Ali, has met Massad Boulos, a senior adviser to US President Donald Trump on Arab and African affairs, to discuss strengthening bilateral relations and regional security.

The meeting focused on deepening cooperation between Somalia and the United States, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to Somalia’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity.

According to the Somali Ministry of Foreign Affairs, discussions also covered enhanced security cooperation, efforts to combat terrorism, and opportunities to expand economic collaboration and investment.

The two officials exchanged views on developments across the Horn of Africa, including the security situation in the Red Sea and the role of the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS) in supporting Somalia’s security priorities.

Both sides reiterated their commitment to promoting regional peace and stability while continuing cooperation aimed at advancing Somalia’s long-term security and development objectives.

The meeting comes amid ongoing efforts by Somalia and its international partners to strengthen security institutions, counter the threat posed by armed militant groups, and encourage greater economic engagement in the country.
