Somalia and US Discuss Security and Investment Ties

Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has held talks with US Congressman Darin LaHood during a visit to the Somali capital, focusing on security cooperation, counter-terrorism and economic ties between the two countries.

President Mohamud received Mr LaHood at the National Presidential Palace, where they discussed strengthening the strategic relationship between Somalia and the United States.

According to the Somali presidency, the talks focused on efforts to promote peace and security, combat terrorism, expand trade and encourage investment.

President Mohamud thanked the US government and people for their continued support for the Somali people. He also reaffirmed Somalia’s commitment to strengthening international cooperation and creating a secure environment capable of attracting investment and supporting economic development.

Mr LaHood praised what he described as progress by Somalia in rebuilding state institutions, stabilising the country and fighting terrorism.

He also expressed his commitment to strengthening the friendly relations and cooperation between Somalia and the United States.

The meeting comes as Somalia continues efforts to improve security, strengthen state institutions and attract investment, while maintaining close cooperation with international partners.
