Somalia has announced a series of political, legal, and diplomatic measures aimed at safeguarding its sovereignty and reinforcing the principle of a unified state.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Somali Presidency said that the responsible positions taken by regional and international states and organizations in support of Somalia’s sovereignty and unity had helped thwart attempts by Israel to recognize the self-declared “Somaliland” administration.
According to the statement, this international stance reflects a broader commitment to the principles of international law and the United Nations Charter, particularly respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states and the principle of non-interference in internal affairs.
Mogadishu stressed that any efforts to undermine Somalia’s unity or engage with separatist entities outside the framework of the federal state constitute a clear violation of international law and pose a threat to regional stability. The Somali government reiterated its categorical rejection of any such actions.
The statement also reaffirmed Somalia’s commitment to continued cooperation with regional and international partners to strengthen security and stability in the Horn of Africa and to promote peaceful solutions that preserve national unity and address the aspirations of the Somali people for peace and development.
The announcement followed recent remarks by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding recognition of the so-called “Republic of Somaliland” as an independent and sovereign state, a move that, according to the Somali Presidency, has drawn widespread condemnation across the Arab and Islamic worlds.
