MOGADISHU — Somalia’s Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation has called for an immediate and unconditional end to deadly clan fighting in the Jalalaqsi district of the Hiraan region, expressing concern over escalating violence and its impact on civilians.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the ministry said clashes between rival clans over the past two days had resulted in casualties and significant damage to property.
The ministry condemned what it described as unlawful targeted attacks, saying such acts were inconsistent with Islamic values and Somali cultural traditions.
According to the statement, the violence has led to deaths, injuries, incidents of arson and looting, as well as the displacement of civilians in affected communities.
Authorities urged all parties involved to cease hostilities without delay and pursue peaceful means to resolve the dispute.
The ministry also warned that legal measures could be taken against individuals using social media platforms to spread inflammatory messages or content deemed likely to incite further violence and deepen community divisions.
It called on traditional elders, religious leaders, women, youth groups, intellectuals and the Hirshabelle regional administration to support efforts aimed at restoring calm, advancing reconciliation and reinforcing peaceful coexistence.
The ministry further appealed to local stakeholders to work towards a long-term resolution to the conflict and extended condolences to families of those killed, while offering prayers for the recovery of the injured and support for those affected by the unrest.
