Somalia, China Move to Deepen Security Cooperation

Mogadishu, Somalia — Somalia and China have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral security cooperation following a high-level meeting between senior officials in Mogadishu.

Somalia’s Minister of Internal Security, Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail, on Monday received China’s Ambassador to Somalia, Wang Yu, along with a delegation from the Chinese embassy.

Discussions centered on enhancing collaboration in the security sector, with a focus on China’s continued support for Somalia’s efforts to build the capacity of its security forces and combat violent extremism.

Minister Ismail expressed gratitude to the Chinese government for its sustained assistance, emphasizing that such cooperation remains critical to strengthening Somalia’s security institutions and maintaining stability across the country.

Ambassador Wang reaffirmed Beijing’s commitment to supporting Somalia’s security agenda. He highlighted ongoing assistance to the country’s demining initiatives, including efforts to enhance the technical capacity of personnel working to reduce the threat posed by landmines and improve civilian safety.

The meeting was also attended by the Director General of the Ministry of Internal Security, Mohamed H. Shire, and Senior Advisor Shoki Hayir.

Both sides concluded the meeting by agreeing to further deepen strategic cooperation, particularly in advancing security and stability in Somalia.
