In a statement, the Federal Republic of Somalia said the attack caused fires on two vessels and posed a threat to critical infrastructure at the port.

Somalia expressed its solidarity with the Arab Republic of Egypt and its efforts to address what it called a serious security threat. It also voiced deep concern over attacks that could undermine freedom of navigation and threaten stability across the region.

The Somali government reiterated its firm opposition to terrorism in all its forms, condemning acts that it said risk escalating regional tensions and threatening peace, security and the prosperity of people across the region.

The statement comes amid wider concerns over attacks targeting maritime infrastructure and shipping routes in the region.
