Mogadishu — Members of both chambers of the Federal Parliament of Somalia have approved the federal government’s 2026 budget during a joint parliamentary session held on Tuesday in Mogadishu.
The eighth joint sitting of the two houses, part of the Parliament’s seventh session, took place at the headquarters of the House of the People and was chaired by the Speaker of the House of the People, Sheikh Aden Mohamed Nur (Madobe), alongside the deputy speakers of both chambers.
The session, which met the required quorum with 151 members of the House of the People and 28 senators from the Upper House present, focused on the third reading and final vote on the 2026 government budget. Lawmakers were briefed on the final budget allocation report by the Chairperson of the House of the People’s Committee on Budget, Finance, Planning, International Cooperation, and Accountability of Government Institutions, MP Abdi Ibrahim Warsame (Qawdhan).
Following deliberations, members of the National Parliament voted on the proposed budget. A total of 174 lawmakers voted in favor, four voted against, and one member abstained, resulting in the approval of the 2026 budget.
Closing the session, Speaker Sheikh Aden Mohamed Nur thanked members of both houses for their participation and for endorsing the government’s financial plan for the coming year.
The approved 2026 federal budget totals $1,386,807,242, which officials described as a key instrument for advancing national development plans, stabilizing the economy, and strengthening the delivery of government services across the country.
