Gedo, Somalia — The former Jubaland security minister and former National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) chief for Gedo region has announced that he has rejoined the Jubaland administration following talks with the government of Jubaland President Ahmed Mohamed Islam, known as Ahmed Madobe.
Abdirashid Janan made the announcement on Tuesday while addressing troops in Gedo. He said he and Jubaland officials had reached an understanding over differences that had previously divided the two sides.
Mr Janan said the discussions had resolved their disagreements and that both sides had agreed that there was no personal animosity between them.
He said his decision was part of efforts to bring together forces and political actors who had previously been divided over the administration and security of Gedo region.
Mr Janan also accused Somalia’s federal government of neglecting Gedo and said this had contributed to the failure of development plans he had been working on in the region.
The announcement marks a significant political and security development in Gedo, an area that has been at the centre of tensions between the federal government and the Jubaland administration.
