Somalia: ISIS Executes Civilians in Al-Miskad Mountains, Puntland

12 April, 2026

Militants affiliated with ISIS have carried out the execution of civilians in the Al-Miskad mountain range, highlighting ongoing security concerns in the region.

According to reports, two civilians were killed near the Daraymadow area along the Jaceel stream in the Qandala district of the Bari region. The incident marks a continuation of violent activities attributed to the group in the area.

One of the victims, identified as Fadumo Dugeeye, was killed in an attack that occurred around midnight on Sunday. Sources indicate that she had previously lost her husband and daughter to the same group in 2025, underscoring the prolonged impact of militant violence on affected families.

In addition to the killings, the militants reportedly seized approximately 400 livestock animals belonging to the victims’ family and neighboring households, further exacerbating the humanitarian situation.

An officer from the Puntland Defense Force confirmed that the group had been under pressure while hiding in a cave in the Balade stream area. According to the officer, the militants managed to move out under the cover of darkness in search of food and supplies, suggesting they are experiencing logistical constraints.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation as efforts to contain the group’s activities remain ongoing.
