Former South West State President Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed Laftagareen has held talks in Nairobi with Jubaland Vice-President Mahmoud Sayid Aden and Doolow district commissioner Mohamed Hussein Lafay.
The meeting focused on Somalia’s political and security situation, particularly developments in South West and Jubaland states.
A statement issued following the meeting said the officials also discussed Somalia’s political transition, strengthening security cooperation and efforts to promote stability.
They exchanged views on coordinating political and security initiatives in the two regions, according to the statement.
The meeting comes as Somalia faces increased political activity and changes linked to the country’s future leadership and elections. Meetings between political figures and leaders of the country’s federal member states have also increased.
Laftagareen has been holding political meetings and organising activities in Nairobi since he was forced out of Baidoa, the administrative capital of South West State.
Meanwhile, reports suggest that forces loyal to Laftagareen have been carrying out movements on the outskirts of Baidoa.
The reported developments come as Ethiopian forces serving as part of the African Union mission in Somalia are expected to leave South West State.
