The comprehensive development initiative encompasses three major infrastructure projects: a modern airport, an international port, and the Mogadishu Economic Zone, all to be constructed in the strategic corridor between Mogadishu and Balcad.
“This plan represents a new beginning that embodies the long-term vision of the Somali people,” President Mohamud declared during the inauguration ceremony. “By focusing on developing the capital’s economic infrastructure, we are laying the foundation for transformative economic development.”

The President emphasized the project’s potential impact on job creation and economic opportunities. “This national consensus will help us quickly catch up with nations that have surpassed us,” he said. “The Somali government is fully committed to facilitating the success of this project, which will generate numerous employment opportunities that currently don’t exist.”
Information indicates that President Hassan Sheikh plans to implement this project after Somalia becomes eligible for new loans, following the forgiveness of its previous debt through the Heavily Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) initiative.
The inauguration ceremony drew high-level attendance, including Prime Minister Hamse Abdi Barre, cabinet ministers, members of parliament, foreign diplomats, and prominent Somali business leaders.
