Abdisalam Abdi Ali, foreign minister of Somalia, held talks on Saturday with his Libyan counterpart Taher Al-Baour in Tripoli, focusing on migration, security and humanitarian cooperation, officials said.

The meeting aimed to strengthen diplomatic ties and develop joint mechanisms to address transnational challenges, particularly irregular migration routes across North Africa. Abdisalam stressed the need to protect Somali migrants from exploitation and warned of the human toll linked to unsafe journeys.
Both sides agreed to enhance cooperation to dismantle trafficking networks operating in the region and to target criminal groups profiting from irregular migration. The ministers pledged coordinated action to curb human trafficking and reduce risks faced by vulnerable migrants.
Somalia also announced plans to repatriate around 400 Somali youths stranded in Libya, in an operation coordinated with Libyan authorities. Officials said the initiative builds on previous returns of more than 2,000 Somali nationals over recent years.
The two ministers further agreed to maintain regular consultations on regional developments and to strengthen cooperation aimed at promoting stability and shared interests between Somalia and Libya.
