Mogadishu, Somalia — The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, on Saturday attended celebrations marking the 82nd anniversary of the establishment of the Somali Police Force (SPF), commending the institution for its role in maintaining national security and public order.

During the event, President Hassan Sheikh congratulated officers of all ranks within the Somali Police Force, praising their dedication and service to the nation. He highlighted the force’s historical role since its founding in 1943, noting its contribution to protecting the lives, property, and dignity of Somali citizens.

“The Somali Police Force has stood for the protection of the Somali people for more than eight decades,” the President said. “I congratulate the force on the remarkable work it has accomplished in a short period of time and thank the men and women who have sacrificed their lives to ensure the security of our country.”

The President also commended the leadership of the Somali Police Force for recent achievements, including efforts to improve security, rebuild police stations, and strengthen the capacity of the force. He urged police commanders and officers to prepare for their responsibilities in safeguarding both direct and indirect electoral processes, particularly in the Benadir region.

Emphasizing accountability and the rule of law, President Hassan Sheikh called on police officers to carry out their duties in accordance with national laws and professional standards. He stressed that protecting citizens’ lives, property, and honor remains a core responsibility of the force and warned that officers would be held accountable for their actions while on duty.
