Somalia president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud officially awarded honorary certificate to world-renowned Somali boxing champion and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, Ramla Ali, at the Presidential Palace, in recognition of her extraordinary efforts as national hero, in a formal meeting that celebrated her groundbreaking achievements and her profound connection to the nation, Villa Somalia said.

The Awarding of the Honorary certificate to Ali was to highlight her role as a national hero and the government’s commitment to supporting youth and women in sports.

Ali’s journey from a refugee to an international athletic icon is a powerful symbol of resilience and determination for all Somalis, particularly for the youth who look to her as a beacon of hope.

At the presidential palace, Mr. Mohamud extended a warm welcome to Ali, who is a pioneering figure in international boxing, being the first Somali to compete at the Olympic Games. The discussion between the two leaders centered on Ali’s journey, which she recounted began at the age of twelve.

She shared that her decision to represent Somalia on the global stage, a commitment she made in 2016, was an expression of deep national pride that she holds dear, Somalia National News Agency (SONNA) reported.

Ms. Ali arrived in Mogadishu last week and was received by top Somali government officials at the Aden Adde International Airport.
