Mogadishu — The Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Barre, on Wednesday received the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Somalia, Wang Yu, at his office in Mogadishu, where the two sides discussed bilateral cooperation and regional political developments.
According to official statements, the meeting focused on ways to jointly address what Somalia described as Israel’s interference in the country’s territorial integrity, as well as strengthening security and political cooperation between Somalia and China.
Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre reiterated the Federal Government of Somalia’s commitment to safeguarding national interests, preserving the unity and territorial integrity of the country, and continuing efforts to eliminate terrorist groups in order to ensure lasting peace and stability.
“The Somali government remains fully committed to defending its sovereignty and enhancing security across the country,” the Prime Minister emphasized during the meeting.
For his part, Ambassador Wang Yu affirmed China’s firm support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Somalia. He stated that the Chinese government respects Somalia’s independence and national unity and will continue to stand by the Somali people and their government.
Prime Minister Hamza expressed appreciation for China’s stance, particularly its position at the United Nations Security Council, where Beijing voiced support for Somalia’s unity, independence, and territorial integrity. He thanked the Chinese government for its continued diplomatic backing amid regional and international challenges.
The meeting underscored the strengthening ties between Somalia and China, particularly in the areas of political cooperation, security, and mutual support on international platforms.
