Somalia: Puntland Appoints Special Commander for Forces in Al-Miskaad Mountains

Garowe, Somalia — Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni has appointed Lieutenant Colonel Mohamud Shire Mohamed as the new commander of security forces operating in the Al-Miskaad Mountains in the Bari region, according to an official statement.

Lieutenant Colonel Mohamud, who previously served as commander of the 1st Commando Unit of the Puntland Maritime Police Force (PMPF), will now oversee all military operations and coordination efforts across the Al-Miskaad area. His new role includes leading and managing Puntland’s defense forces stationed in the mountainous region.

The appointment was confirmed in a statement released by the PMPF General Command, which welcomed the decision and extended congratulations to the officer.

“The General Command of the Puntland Navy and Land Forces of the PMPF sends its congratulations and appreciation to Lieutenant Colonel Mohamud Shire Mohamed, who was appointed by the President of Puntland State as Commander of the Puntland Defense Force in the Al-Miskaad area,” the statement said.

The PMPF also commended Mohamud’s record of service, highlighting his experience and leadership in previous roles. According to the statement, he has played a key role in maintaining security in challenging environments and has demonstrated strong operational capabilities.

“Commander Mohamud Shire Mohamed is an officer who has long served in the defense and security of the country, known for his courage, loyalty, and selflessness,” the statement added. “Throughout his career, he has shown strong leadership, advanced military skills, and the ability to manage complex operations against groups that threaten security.”

The Al-Miskaad Mountains in Bari region have been a strategic area for Puntland’s security operations, particularly in efforts to counter militant activity and maintain regional stability.
