Bari Region, Somalia — Puntland security forces have captured an alleged ISIS fighter in the Al-Miskaad mountains who has provided new information about the militant group’s movements and current condition.

The detainee, identified as Nasur Ali Jama, reportedly a Tanzanian national, was apprehended during recent security operations in the mountain range in Bari region. Authorities describe him as a member of the ISIS faction active in northern Somalia.

According to officials, Jama detailed the route he used to enter Somalia, saying he traveled from Tanzania through Kenya and Ethiopia, before crossing into Hargeisa and eventually reaching the Al-Miskaad mountains.

“I traveled from Tanzania. I entered Somalia through Hargeisa, Somaliland, after first passing through Kenya and Ethiopia,” Jama told Puntland forces during interrogation.

Jama also claimed that ISIS in northern Somalia is facing severe shortages of food and resources, saying the group’s fighters are struggling to survive.

“Our power is exhausted today… there is terrible hunger,” he said, adding that remaining fighters have been forced to slaughter donkeys and other animals in the area to survive.

In his remarks, Jama also made derogatory comparisons aimed at Puntland forces. Authorities emphasized that his statements reflect the perspective of a captured fighter rather than factual assessments.

Puntland officials say Jama’s capture is the latest in a series of operations aimed at dismantling ISIS cells operating in remote mountain areas. The administration has increased pressure on militant groups in recent months, reporting multiple arrests and disruptions of supply routes.
