Security forces in Puntland have successfully thwarted an attempted attack by militants linked to Islamic State on a recently constructed water well in Dhadaar, officials said.

The incident occurred in the Dhaadaar area along the Jacayl stream in the Cal Miskaad Mountains, where militants reportedly sought to destroy infrastructure installed by the regional government.
A Puntland defense officer stationed in the Bari region confirmed that security forces intercepted the attackers before they could damage the well, describing the operation as a complete success.

“The militants were attempting to sabotage a vital water source for local communities, but our forces acted swiftly to prevent any destruction,” the officer told local media.
Three Puntland soldiers were injured during the confrontation, according to the official, who did not provide details on casualties among the militants.
In response to ongoing threats, Puntland authorities have announced a shift in strategy aimed at countering ISIS elements operating in the region.
The new approach includes intensified airstrikes and a supply blockade targeting militant positions in the Baallade stream area, located on the outskirts of Bosaso.
Officials say the measures are intended to weaken remaining militant strongholds and prevent further attacks on critical infrastructure.
